About the Banned Books Tour

Since book bans are rising in America, Penguin Random House started an initiative called the Banned Wagon where a truck carrying all the banned books goes around cities trying to educate and encourage people about reading the books and saving the stories. The themes of the banned books revolved around racial inequality, teen pregnancies, and LGBTQ+ which is why it is so important for people and kids to read about the topics and learn from diverse perspectives.

The initiative aims to fight the government censorship by distributing free banned books and other goodies while highlighting the importance of representation and knowledge of sensitive topics at appropriate ages.

The Banned Books Kit

On this tour, people who bought a banned book were given a poster, a bookmark, and stickers to build engagement and strengthen the cause. The design of the 2026 tour consisted of hand drawn book spines of the featured banned books. The entire kit followed this design style in different ways.
